Consciousness - the essential foundation for your life

Consciousness

Living in the here and now

In a world that is spinning ever faster, in which our attention is constantly drawn outwards - by stimuli, expectations, roles and obligations - we easily lose touch with what is really essential: ourselves. It is not the case that consciousness rests somewhere and life happens - on the contrary, life itself is consciousness in action, right now and only now.

Underneath all the thinking, planning, reacting and functioning lies something quiet, clear and unchanging: consciousness.

Consciousness is not a state that you have to achieve - it is already there. It is that which sees, hears and feels within you. It is what recognizes that you are reading this text right now. And it is the first step to inner peace, to freedom, to an awake, genuine life.

What is consciousness?

Consciousness is the awareness of what is - without judgment, without resistance. It means being present, being fully in the moment. Awake. Present. Not just physically present, but inwardly connected with what is happening right now - in you and around you, feeling yourself again.

Consciousness is not thinking about something, but seeing it clearly. It is observing thoughts instead of identifying with them. It feels emotions without being overwhelmed by them. It perceives the body without having to change it. In consciousness, you are the space in which everything is allowed to emerge - without holding on to it, without rejecting it. From this inner space emerges a deep clarity, a quiet strength, a new way of experiencing life: present, alive, connected.

Why is consciousness so important?

Be conscious

When we are not conscious, we live in automatic reactions. We function according to old patterns, react out of habit and feel controlled by others. We get lost in thoughts about the past or worries about the future - and miss the only place where life really happens: the present moment. Consciousness is the key to:

  • Finding inner clarity - about yourself, your needs, your truth
  • Facing stress and sensory overload without breaking down
  • Understanding feelings instead of being controlled by them
  • Make truthful decisions - not out of fear, but out of clarity
  • Living relationships more consciously - with presence, openness and compassion
  • To feel yourself again, beyond roles, expectations and thoughts

“There is a space between stimulus and response. In this space lies our power to choose. In our choice lies our freedom.”
Viktor Frankl (* March 26, 1905 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary; † September 2, 1997 in Vienna, Austria)

How does consciousness arise?

Consciousness is not a goal, but a natural state that we uncover. It is not made - it is discovered. Ways to cultivate consciousness in everyday life - full contact with yourself:

  • Mindfulness: Pause. Breathe. Fully experiencing the present moment.
  • Silence: moments without distraction. Listening. Giving space.
  • Body awareness: Feel what is - not what “should be”.
  • Observe instead of evaluate: Recognize thoughts and feelings without getting entangled in them.
  • Presence in relationships: Really listening. Being there. Be open.
  • Reflection: What is really moving me right now? What story am I telling myself? Is it true?

The more you observe yourself, the more you realize: You are not your thoughts. You are not your feelings. You are what she perceives.

Consciousness is a path - and a return

The path to consciousness is not a straight line. It is a path of remembering. Again and again. Sometimes it happens through a crisis, sometimes through silence, sometimes through an encounter. But in the end, it always leads you back to yourself - to that part of yourself that is still, vast and invulnerable. Consciousness brings you into contact with what really matters: Authenticity. Depth. Aliveness. Love. It is the key to inner peace - not because it solves problems, but because it takes you to the place where you are greater than any problem.

Consciousness is the bridge between who you think you are and who you really are.

And finally, a little exercise for you

Consciousness

This exercise takes 5 minutes: sit down comfortably and relaxed and do nothing but breathe. Close your eyes and breathe. Focus your awareness on the tip of your nose and consciously notice the inhalation and exhalation. And now: How many conscious breaths can you take without thinking - just be. When thoughts come, don't act on them. Don't judge yourself, just return to the inhalation and exhalation with your awareness.

Can you take a breath just being without a thought coming in between? How many breaths can you take without thinking?

After 5 minutes, start to move your hands and feet, slowly open your eyes and return to your place with your awareness, your presence. Feel inside yourself: How are you feeling now? Are you calmer? Are you more balanced? Are you more relaxed?

Now answer the question honestly: Have you managed to take a conscious breath without thinking a thought? If not - there is your great potential, perhaps the greatest potential on your path to happiness in life.

What you can practise now: Learn to take 10 conscious breaths without a thought! It will take a little time and practice - but know: the day will come when you need it - and then you will be prepared ....
