Formulating goals - the golden rules of correct formulation
Blog post from 2025.08.06
"Determination is one of the most important ingredients for success in life—no matter what your goal."
(John D. Rockefeller Jr., * January 29, 1874 in Cleveland, Ohio; † May 11, 1960 in Tucson, Arizona)
Every change begins with defining and formulating your desired goal. Your goal is what will be true for you in the future.
The Importance of Writing Goals
Writing down goals is far more than just an organizational act - it's a powerful step toward translating thoughts into reality. There's a world of difference between a vague wish and a consciously formulated goal. And this world begins to take shape as soon as you pick up pen and paper and clearly formulate your intention.
The very moment you write, the first manifestation of your desired goal occurs in your reality. By writing it down, you bring your defined goal out of the subtle vibrational state of mere thought. And through a cellular process - that of writing - you bring your thoughts onto paper, into your reality.
1️⃣ From Wish to Concrete Direction
As long as a goal exists only in your head, it often remains vague, unclear, or fluctuates depending on your mood. As soon as you write it down, you'll gain:
- Clarity about the "what" and "why"
- A concrete formulation that provides guidance
- The first step toward implementation
Written goals make the difference between reacting and consciously creating.
2️⃣ The Brain Needs Focus
Our brain loves clear, unambiguous signals. The reticular activating system (RAS), your internal perception filter, responds to what you consider important. When you write down your goal, you activate precisely this filter – and your brain begins to register relevant information, opportunities, and solutions in everyday life.
Example: If you write down the goal: "I am building a fulfilling business close to my heart," your focus will begin to recognize ideas, contacts, or learning opportunities that previously went unnoticed.
3️⃣ Writing = Manifesting
From a spiritual perspective, writing is an act of creation. You bring thoughts from the mental to the material realm. Words are energy – and when you put your goals on paper with positive intention, clarity, and feeling, you begin to create the frequency of your future. Write your goals as if they were already reality.
The Golden Rules of Goal Setting
✅ Formulate in the first person
Your goals are all about you, so goals are formulated in the first person - "i."
✅ Formulate positively
Your goals are formulated positively. You write down what you want to achieve - not what you don't want. Avoid words like "not," "no," "less," etc.
✅ Formulate precisely
Formulate your goal(s) precisely and get to the point succinctly.
✅ Formulate in the present tense
Describe what will be true for you from now on - in the present tense.
✅ Ensure harmony in your goals
Your goals are aligned and in harmony with each other - they reinforce and support each other.
✅ Formulate challenging goals
Only when a goal challenges you (is outside your comfort zone), inspires you, and awakens your desire will you develop sufficient motivation and perseverance to actually achieve it.
✅ Ensure measurability
Only when your goal(s) are measurable can you check for yourself whether you are getting closer to the desired result with your implementation activities, and thus monitor your progress. Check how you know for yourself whether you have achieved your goal or whether you are making the desired progress on your way to the goal. You can use the somatic marker for this. This asks your subconscious (especially for goals that are difficult to measure), for example, through kinesiological testing, whether you are on the right path.
✅ Define short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals
You need short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals. It's often advisable to break long-term goals down into short- and medium-term goals. This will give you a manageable structure to your goals. Typical implementation periods should be:
- Long-term: 5-10 years
- Medium-term: 1-5 years
- Short-term: 0.5-1 year
✅ Define deadlines for achieving your goals
Set deadlines for all measurable goals by which you want to achieve them. With a precisely defined deadline, your goal(s) will be in the future you have determined.
✅ Take full responsibility
You must be able to take 100% responsibility for your goal(s). All activities that bring you closer to your goal(s) are initiated by you – your success must depend solely on you.
❤️ Formulate with gratitude
A very special power unfolds when your goal is connected from the very beginning with the magic, power, and energy of gratitude. Gratitude:
- Solidifies your belief in your goal
- Puts you in a state of fulfilled goal achievement (a necessary basic state for manifestation)
Conclusion: Writing creates direction, depth, and energy
Formulating goals in writing means:
- You take your future into your own hands.
- You give your inner compass a clear direction.
- You turn dreams into action.
"A goal you don't write down remains just a wish."
Give your visions a voice – in your handwriting. And watch how life begins to align itself with them.
