The mirror self is your inner counterpart. It shows itself in the external mirror, but it means more: the version of yourself that you often don't consciously live - vulnerable, genuine, courageous, unprotected. You face it and speak I-am sentences as if you already see, understand and accept yourself at that moment.
However, you should not convince yourself of an image that you cannot accept in your mind, but you should remember who you really are! Not to improve yourself - but to bear witness to yourself. Not to be perfect - but to be whole.
Visualize a mirror image of yourself sitting opposite you (you can also really sit in front of a mirror). Take a few deep breaths. As you breathe in, connect with your image in the mirror and as you breathe out, let go of any heaviness that may be inside you.
Speak quietly or loudly - with eye contact:
Hold this gaze. Maybe there will be resistance, maybe sadness, maybe a smile. Everything is allowed to be there. Stay.
With one hand on your heart, speak your powerful, honest and dignified I-am sentences directly to your reflection (internally or externally if you are sitting in front of a mirror) - slowly, with pauses, directly to yourself. Make sure that they are not exaggerated, but truthful. No masks - no victimization. Just you.
The following sentences, channeled by my dear friend and ThetaBuddy Daniel Rohrmoser, may serve as an example:
Keep looking at yourself and speaking (only if it feels right):
Now visualize your mirror image coming towards you and merging with you. Make a small gesture: touch the mirror - or your forehead, your heart.
Close your eyes. Feel it. Allow a few minutes of silence.
Say quietly:
Breathe deeply. Bow down (inwardly or physically). Consciously leave the room.
This exercise is not an exercise in affirming, but in truly recognizing yourself. It uses the power of the as-if to connect you to your wholeness - not because you are perfect, but because you are worthy to look at yourself and speak.
I am not finished. But I am there. And that is enough.
